Vase II by Audrey Yifei Li
AUDREY YIFEI LI is a Beijing-born based in Brooklyn. Her art explores contemporary interpretations of nature, the human form and Eastern traditions. She is a graduate of the Yale School of Architecture and Hobart & William Smith Colleges.
Taking inspiration from Chinese celadon ceramics from the Song Dynasty, Li wanted to explore the emergence of the Crackle Glaze / 冰裂纹 and how the pattern shifted from being considered the result of an accident to one the most appreciated aesthetics that kilns sought to master. The crackles showcase a motif of abstraction that is highly controlled yet extremely organic. Foil was adopted as a choice of medium to convey the reflectivity of the glaze.
Hand-drawn and printed on premium archival matte paper.
