Khotan rugs
Khotan carpets, also known as Samarkand carpets, hail from the remote region of East Turkestan in the middle of the Asian continent, which today comprises Xinjiang, China's eastern-most province. The area has a rich tradition of carpet weaving, notably from the oasis towns of Khotan, Yarkand, and Kashgar. The rugs are famous for blending styles of influences from Persia, China, and India, and containing motifs of pomegranates, flowers, vases, and clouds.
